Winning: GliSODin Skin Nutrients Advanced Skin Brightening Formula

I guess there’s no better marker of something working than when your friend notices a difference first. I was invited to attend a lunch hosted by GliSODin Skin Nutrients last month. I didn’t know much about the brand but we had Dr. Shirley Madhere, a NYC-based holistic plastic surgeon, and beauty nutritionist Paula Simpson there to help. I learned that the supplements work to help prevent skin damage and oxidative stress from the inside out. It uses non-genetically modified melon extract and wheat protein to boost your body’s natural antioxidant system. Translation: gorgeous skin and decreased signs of aging.

While they have different supplements (their Advanced Daily Formula hydrates skin for a healthy glow, and the Advanced Detoxification Formula eliminates toxins that lead to blemishes, dull skin, low energy and poor digestion), we were given their Advanced Brightening Formula to take home.

I don’t think I’ve ever taken any type of nutriceutical supplements. Partly because I’m just bad about taking any type of vitamin regularly (I’M TRYING to change that). But before I went on vacation, I decided I would pack a two-week supply and just see what happens. The brightening formula is formulated to protect skin from UV and oxidative stress while evening out your skin tone (perfect, I was going straight to the beach). According to their website, it uses carotenoids which are anti-inflammatories that protect the skin and reduces inflammation caused by UV exposure and Citrus Bioflavonoids to promote even skin tone by inhibiting tyrosinase activity (the enzyme that promotes hyperpigmentation).

I’m never easily sold on these things, even though the science is there. But when I came home after my vacation, I was noticing my skin was literally brighter. I thought maybe it was help from a slight post-vacation tan. But then my roomie Shazia kept creepily peering at me and asked “WHAT are you using on your skin? It’s glowing.” I switch up my skin care regimen too much to pin point what exactly was going on, but I thought back and told her the only thing that I was doing consistently different was using the supplements. Now, I’m pretty convinced that it’s what has been brightening up my skin for real.

Since this discovery, I’ve added their Advanced Slimming Formula to the mix. It’s like a protein shake, you can add to water or make into a smoothie that contains seaweed extract (promotes healthy metabolic rate while controlling excess fat and carb absorption), and green coffee extract (which supports healthy blood sugar level and controls excess sugar absorption). Since I’m FINALLY back into my workout routine, I figure it’ll fit in well with my fitness goals. Especially this one, since it’s pretty much a cleanse that leads to a leaner body mass. And bonus points for actually tasting pretty good…which is almost never the case with these healthy powder formulas. I’ll keep you posted on how well it works, but for now, I’m reeling over the results of the Brightening formula.

Now, I got both complimentary from the event, but here’s the thing that can stop some of you in your tracks: Price. The supplements come in a 60-soft gel pack and costs $80. The powder costs $85 but that’s for a huge 720 gram bottle. Not that budget friendly, but it also depends on what your skin goals are. I went into this expecting nothing and was really impressed with the results.

Would you spend $80 on quality supplements with scientific backing, or is that still too much?

i would spend on supplements because i really feel that skin should be treated first and foremost from the inside. most good cosmetic products cost around $80 anyway so why not spend on this especially when you’re raving about results? although, i’m curious – wouldn’t fish oil, vitamin e pills and lots of water do just about the same? some people also swear by goji berries. although they’re quite expensive too.

I have had momentary spurts where I would take multi-vitamins, fish oil, CoQ10 pills — but this was the first time I really could tell there was an improvement in just a couple of weeks (this one does contain CoQ10 too btw). The difference between this and other regular vitamins is its enzymes. They’re are not absorbed in our system like vitamins E and A — those vitamins are used up and have to replenished really fast. The enzyme is kinda of the basis of this whole line. The ‘SOD’ in GliSODin stands for superoxide dismutase (yes I looked that up) and has 10 yrs of research on it.

after seeing the results first hand, i definitely want to get this. i was a little hesitant about the price, but Priya makes a good point. i think i may replace my Ole Henriksen serums with these supplements–feel like the supplements will get the job done better.

Hmmm…I am all for good products for your skin even if requires spending a bit more. I’m a firm believer in buying a few good products rather than wasting money on the not so good ones.

Ever try Natura Bisse products….expensive but worth every penny!

Because these are nutraceuticals and me being a pharmacist…I would try it if they offered a free trial since everyone reacts differently to medications/supplements/etc…I have very sensitive skin and would hate to invest in it only to find out I reacted badly.

    Just my thoughts!

That’s a good point – I wonder if you can get samples at the store before investing fully in supplements like these.
