Meskerem: Ethiopian food in the West Village

Meskerem Combo, $13.25
Meskerem Combo, $13.25

First time I had Ethiopian food. Two orders of only this dish easily fed 6 people and that’s largely due to the filling spongey bread (injera) you eat with the toppings. You take pieces of the bread underneath and eat the meat and chicken pieces on top (wat, gomen besaega, yebeg alecha, miser alecha and miser wat…I’m not gonna act like I know which is which, so I’m just listing them!).

I’m glad I went to give it a taste since I never had Ethiopian food before, though I probably wouldn’t go back on my own again. I thought it tasted like a drier version of Indian food. The people I was with loved it though, so to each their own I guess.

So I’m thinkin’: Just OK, I wasn’t super excited about it. Yeah. That’s all.

  4. Hmm…I went to a really good Ethiopian place in the city with my former roommate who happens to be half Ethiopian. I’ll get the name so that you can have a better eating experience next time 🙂
