Paris, je t’aime

Again, sorry for so much time between posts! I have barely had any time to update, but I have tons to write about! Will give a couple highlights here because I have to run again! Yesterday, we climbed up a hill to see the Sacré-Cœur Basilica Roman Catholic Church in the Montmartre (18th district), which is the highest point in the city. It not only had the most stunning panoramic view of the city, but is also so beautiful inside.

Afterwards, we walked down to visit what we thought was the Père Lachaise cemetery where Napoleon, Oscar Wilde and Jim Morrison are buried, but instead was the smaller Montmartre one (oops)…but even the cemeteries are pretty here, is that weird?

Hoping we can still go to the former one while we’re here, but on the way there, we picked up a quick bite ate Artisan Boulanger, where the lady was super annoyed at my paltry French skills. Still, the tarnitades we ordered were really good — it’s just bread topped with sauce, feta cheese, olives, roasted peppers, and one with chicken.

A little further down the street which was full of cafes and little boutiques, I found a beauty store, Beauty Monop on Avenue Italie, which is like a little Parisian beauty boutique. I had to take pictures of in case you beauty aficionados are feeling jipped lately (sorry about that by the way!)

We then made another pit stop at a smaller church, Saint Jean de Montmartre, which seemed so empty compared to the Sacre-Coeur but still had something to admire.

Later on, we stumbled into a indie rock concert at Chacha on Rue Berger in the 1st district which we found out later just opened up last August. It was a great way to end the night….except there were some sketch guy who tried to trick us into thinking the Metro was still running! A little scary run in, so we ran off to find a cab. The cabbie was this big bald Parisian named Red. When we told him the story, he kept saying, “Where is he?? I’ll take care of him!” And then made us take his number in case we ever need a ride again. He’s like ‘Just say you’re the girls from New York and Chicago and I’ll remember.”

Here’s a video of The Tatianas, the Parisian indie rock band we saw play last night. They told us later that they’ve shared a stage with MGMT and Vampire Weekend among others. Last night, they played an acoustic set at Chacha’s. A snippet from their set, including their song, “I’m a Swine”.

PS. Sorry about the lack of restaurant info — I’m still looking for the websites!
