What’s your favorite concealer?

Even if you don’t wear a lot of makeup, a good concealer can make all the difference in your look. As you know, I like to test things out a lot, but I’ll stick to something if it works. In this case, it’s TheBalm’s TimeBalm concealer, which I’ve been using for 3 years now. It’s funny, because when I tell people this, they always make me repeat it because they haven’t heard of the brand, but all their stuff is at Sephora!

I swear by this one, and here are a couple reasons why:

  • Texture is phenomenal. It’s a cream solid which is a little drier than most, but it stays put. It covers without having to put a lot on like some liquid concealers, and I’ll usually top it with a setting powder just to play it safe for evening events.
  • Doesn’t make a case for creasing (especially around the eyes). Not that it never does, since I have found lines at times when the weather is warmer. But I haven’t had a noticeable problem with creases.
  • Color match. It’s SO.HARD. to find a color that matches my medium complexion. I’ve tried bare minerals, and find that it’s too pink. I’ve tried liquid concealers, and find it too yellow. This has a great base that matches me perfectly (I use it medium/dark).
  • Size! It’s so small and easy to carry, I take it everywhere for touch ups.
  • Price. For $18, it’s a quality product that lasts a few months.
  • I actually do have a few complaints, but nothing major that keeps me from buying it again:

  • The sponge applicator. I have to toss this usually after the 3rd or 4th application because I feel like it’s not clean enough. Sponges are a breeding ground for bacteria, and I never like to keep them with my makeup. I feel like it works better when you use your fingers anyway, but that leads to another minus point…
  • The jar being so small, sometimes makes it hard to reach in and apply, especially when you’re running low.
  • Not for the super dry. I randomly got this dry patch during spring time (damn you allergies!), and since this concealer is a solid base, it wasn’t great in concealing alone. I had to moisturize before trying to use this, but in general, you really should moisturize before applying makeup at all!
  • That said, it’s STILL my favorite, and I think it works wonders for the price. Do you have any other favorite concealers?

OK this post is right up my alley. I’ve been on a quest for the perfect concealer for years. I’ve tried a whole range of companies, consistencies, colors, etc. For me personally, I need a thick creamy concealer, so the cakes and powdery ones aren’t right for me. And as it stands right now, my favorite by far is Prescriptives Site Unseen. Second place would probably go to Cargo OneBase, which is also a foundation – i love the consistency, but the color is always slightly off for me. I also liked Tarte The Eraser, though it’s a tad drier than the other two.
