Found a gem of a place in the East Village tonight: Bistrouge. I just wanted to stop by somewhere for coffee, and saw their “Coffee – Wine – Bread – Odyssey” canopy outside, so thought I’d stop by. It’s a small rustic place, brick walls and dim lighting with jazzy tunes playing in the background.
I meant to stop only for a cappuccino because I wasn’t even that hungry to begin with, but the menu looked REALLY good so I had to order something.
I went with something that seemed light, a French brie cheese sandwich with honey, roasted walnuts, granny smith apples, and romaine ($9) — and wow. It was delicious, and came with a side of wonderfully rosemary-seasoned home fries.
I’m definitely going back because everything, including their their homemade meatballs in roasted spicy tomato sauce and crisp basil and three-pepper crusted grilled sirloin steak, looks sooo tempting.
