Loren Ridinger is kind of gorgeous.
She held an event recently for her makeup line, Motives, at her equally gorgeous penthouse in lower Manhattan (with stunning views of the water might I add). As the creative director for multiple companies, Loren is one successful woman. That goes for her makeup line which simply won me over (more on this below).
For her Fall Collection, since the ranges are inspired by beauty icons — Ava Gardner, Marilyn Monroe, and Audrey Hepburn — Loren made it so you stop at each table where the respective impersonating model tells you about their “colors” (I got a kick out of being greeted with, “Hi, I’m Marilyn Monroe!”).
So, I have to admit, when I walked in the place, I automatically assumed this would be another fancy makeup line that no one can afford and I’d really have to dig to find “what’s different.” But the price range is a refreshing $12-$25.
And here’s my favorite part — they were making customized foundation right at the event. I was watching the other girls get it done and it was looking really, really good. I was on my way out, but after seeing that I sat to get mine done.
The makeup artist took a mini beaker and began studying my face, asking me about what kind of texture and coverage I liked. She poured and mixed until she was satisfied with the results, and wow — the foundation was perfect.
I never got customizable makeup done, so I’m not sure how other brands who do it (like Prescriptives) compares. But it will be available next month in August and it’s definitely worth checking out.
Which leads me to my next question — have you ever had your foundation custom made? What did you try, and would you recommend?
