I have no idea who comes up with this stuff, but apparently the latest beauty trend is shaving off or bleaching eyebrows to invisibility, says The New York Times:
Forget shaping and plucking. The newest trend in eyebrows is to get rid of them altogether, either by bleaching them into oblivion or by shaving them off. The look has cropped up across the fashion world and is trickling to the streets. It was a conspicuous trend on the fall and haute couture runways, on models like Lara Stone and Iris Strubegger, and is now reflected in magazine and advertising images.
Even earlier this week, Kim Kardashian also presented us with her latest photo shoot (that’s her above!!) where makeup artist Troy Jensen gave her a Twilight-inspired look by covering up her eyebrows and giving her a very Gothic, Marilyn Manson look.
Lauren Boyle, a woman interviewed in the article who plucks her eyebrows off daily, goes on to say, “It’s unifying…There is an asexual element to no eyebrows. We are much more accepting of the ‘other’ nowadays. Removing eyebrows removes a degree of expression, which makes one look less human and more cerebral, maybe even mechanical. It’s an exercise in modernity.”
This is definitely not my favorite beauty trend. Eyebrows frame the face and are one of my favorite features on people! Removing them (and therefore, expressions) from someone will make them seem more “mechanical” like Boyle says — but not in a good way in my opinion.
What do you think about this beauty trend?
