New beauty trend: No eyebrows.

Guess who??
Guess who??

I have no idea who comes up with this stuff, but apparently the latest beauty trend is shaving off or bleaching eyebrows to invisibility, says The New York Times:

Forget shaping and plucking. The newest trend in eyebrows is to get rid of them altogether, either by bleaching them into oblivion or by shaving them off. The look has cropped up across the fashion world and is trickling to the streets. It was a conspicuous trend on the fall and haute couture runways, on models like Lara Stone and Iris Strubegger, and is now reflected in magazine and advertising images.

See NYTIMES slideshow of the no eyebrow trend.

Even earlier this week, Kim Kardashian also presented us with her latest photo shoot (that’s her above!!) where makeup artist Troy Jensen gave her a Twilight-inspired look by covering up her eyebrows and giving her a very Gothic, Marilyn Manson look.

29052149Lauren Boyle, a woman interviewed in the article who plucks her eyebrows off daily, goes on to say, “It’s unifying…There is an asexual element to no eyebrows. We are much more accepting of the ‘other’ nowadays. Removing eyebrows removes a degree of expression, which makes one look less human and more cerebral, maybe even mechanical. It’s an exercise in modernity.”

This is definitely not my favorite beauty trend. Eyebrows frame the face and are one of my favorite features on people! Removing them (and therefore, expressions) from someone will make them seem more “mechanical” like Boyle says — but not in a good way in my opinion.

What do you think about this beauty trend?

How exactly would one remove the entire eyebrow anyway? Wax? Shave? Pluck? WTF?! This is sooo strange…I’m pro-eyebrow!

i think whoever started this trend is just jealous that they can’t grow dark & nicely arched eyebrows like brown people 🙂

Hmm, can’t really say I’m thrilled to see that trend coming. But I pretty much agree; I think eyebrows should be considered part of a person’s facial features because it kind of adds to his/her uniqueness…

    Hope you’re doing well!

I think it looks cool….it does add more focus on your eyes and lips – in fact the features in general. Some people all they have nice on their face is their eyebrows…and if you do have not very good ones, this is an option if you have wonderful features, that bad eyebrows could be overpowering. I think Kim looks ethereal and romantic – big difference from her usually hootchie looks. I think its cool!

Also, I think the people that like it aren’t saying so in these and other comments….the nay sayers seem to over power, but the vote says more people like it.
