Celebrating Lipstick Queen’s Fired Up! Gloss

Any Lipstick Queen fans?

Poppy, the brilliant woman behind the brand who is every bit as charming in real life as you’d think, was out at Castor & Pollux boutique in the West Village last night to celebrate her brand new sheer fire engine-red gloss, Fired Up!

The launch party wasn’t only to celebrate a new product — it was one promoting a great cause as well. For this gloss in particular, Poppy partnered up with Count Me In, a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance and business consulting services to woman-owned businesses. Buy the gloss for $14, and 100% of the profits go straight to Count Me In. A beautiful gloss developed by the expert on red lips that benefits a great cause = no brainer.

Nell Merlino, founder of Make Mine a Million and Take Your Daughter to Work Day was also there to introduce us to the organization.

Poppy, who started a lipstick brand in her native Australia before coming to NY to launch Lipstick Queen, mentioned how she started both businesses during a recession! It may be counterintuitive, but she thinks in retrospect, it was to her advantage — you have to be quicker on your feet and people are more receptive to new ideas.

Between signing copies of her book, Lessons of a Lipstick Queen, Poppy even listened to my red lips woes and she totally got was I was saying. She led me to the counter of her lipstick collection and picked out Saint Rouge for me — a sheer, berry shade of red.
