Jane in Greenwich Village

I love Jane for two reasons…well mostly these two reasons: the cozy ambiance, and their gnocchi.

Toasted Ricotta Gnocchi, $15

Don’t let the small portion of the dish fool you — it’s gnocchi after all, and it’s filling. It’s also seasoned with Italian parsley and white truffle sauce and so tender. The only thing I don’t love is it’s very buttery, maybe too buttery for most people. Second, I guess you’re paying for taste, but it is a really tiny dish (granted, filling) but still for $15 seems like a lot for lunch.

The fish my friend ordered though, isn’t really worth the rave.

Seared Ahi Tuna, $23

He got the Seared Ahi Tuna, which is not only a small piece resting atop shiitake mushroom, baby spinach, and caramelized cauliflower, he said it was on the dry side. For $23, we were expecting a little more.

Another minus point, and maybe this was just this time, we went in the afternoon, when it wasn’t very packed and service was super slow and they weren’t very attentive to refilling our water. Bummer. Very different compared to the first time I went, when I also tried the hanger steak and loved.

Just stick to the gnocchi here and be happy.
