Finding My Spring Hair Look with Celeb Stylist Francky L’Official

By Summar Ghias

Could Nicole Richie's hair work for me? I asked her stylist, Francky L'Official.

My hair was tired of being my own personal blanket. Winter may be over but my tresses were still dry, my ends were splitting and it had grown like crazy since my last cut way back in October. I wanted to go the trendy route for a change, so I pulled up a picture of blunt bangs courtesy of Nicole Richie, and enlisted in master celeb stylist Francky L’Official for help.

Francky hails from Paris where he honed his talents under stylist Jacques Dessange and has since coiffed the locks of a whole range of celebrities, from Real Housewife Bethenny Frankel to Snookie of Jersey Shore (she’s as tired of the poof as we are, he says) to Kate Winslet and Richie herself.

His sleek new flagship salon on the Upper East Side opened late March just in time for spring, and the 2,000 square foot expanse offers services such as haircuts, colors, mani/pedis, and even dermatological services. It wasn’t hard to put trust in Francky’s adept hands, but I quickly realized even a nudge in my favored blunt bangs direction wouldn’t sway him to go against his gut.

Before

Here are some of the lessons I learned while in his chair:

Lesson #1 Don’t force a trend on yourself.

While I was dying for front blunt bangs, Francky very quickly vetoed the idea, saying that it would overwhelm my tiny forehead and make my already round face look rounder. Phew, crisis averted.

Lesson #2 A spring look doesn’t need to be something drastic

Francky said fresh layers and long waves would be the perfect lift to my weighed down hair.

Lesson#3 Shine can make your hair go from drab to fab instantly.

Francky used the Kérastase Oléo-Curl masquefor some instantaneous detangling and added shine. My hair hasn’t felt this soft in a long time.

The highlight of my time there:
In the middle of drying my thick hair into soft curls with a one-inch round brush, Francky said in his very French accent, “If I had your hair for extensions, I would dieee.” His salon is one of the first in the city to offer Balmain Systeme Volume extensions. I’ll admit, the compliment still has me smiling.

After
Me with Francky L'Official!

My verdict:
I may not have the slightly hipster Au Revoir Simone-like bangs of my dreams, but I’m pretty happy with the results nonetheless. Spring has arrived, and finally, so has my hair!

What kind of cut do you want for spring?
