Room Service in Hell’s Kitchen

I just realized how creepy that title is.

But the Room Service I’m talking about is the fairly new Thai restaurant that just got cozy on 9th Ave between 47th and 48th. The restaurant itself is gorgeously outfitted in silvers and blacks, and aligned with a pretty ratio of chandeliers and mirrors that makes you feel like you’re actually eating at a nice swanky hotel.

I’ve always passed by and wanted to eat here and finally got a chance recently with a friend who has eaten here a few times before and loves it herself. We ordered the Tamarind Dish and Pad See Euw.

Tamarind Dish

The Tamarind Dish is probably everything that’s bad for your heart, but it’s sooo good. Tamarind-chili sauce, sweet peppers, broccoli, scallion and cilantro which we ordered with battered, deep fried chicken. It was a recipe for success.

I normally really love flat noodles, so I went with the Pad See Euw. It’s sauteed in sweet soy sauce, and comes with chicken cooked with broccoli and eggs.

Pad See Euw

Truth be told, I didn’t love it. I thought it was a too oily and ended up compromising some of the taste. I probably wouldn’t order this one again, but I would still go back to try something else. I don’t know if it’s the food or presentation but some plates just looked phenomenal (like the chicken satay appetizer the people next to us ordered). The ambiance of the place is so sleek and elegant, which is surprising when you find that the meals aren’t even as expensive as the place looks. Our dishes were only about $10 each.
