Burgers at Corner Bistro – Greenwich Village

Corner Bistro calls itself the “last of the Bohemian bars” in the village. I’m not really sure what that means. But, it definitely made its mark in the area, where I heard there’s usually a line out the door for a spot to eat here. My friends and I picked a good time to go though: right after work on a weekday. While it was still packed when we went, we got a table right away.

When we asked for the menu, the waiter looked at us funny and pointed to the opposite wall where there was only about eight things on the menu including a burger; a cheeseburger; a bistro burger (with bacon); and fries.

I had high expectations, since this place was known for their burgers, but I can’t say I ended up really liking mine — the meat patty was too thick for me to finish. What I didn’t realize was this place is actually known for its bistro burgers (their burgers with cheese and bacon). New York magazine says “it’s one of the heftiest, messiest and, at $6.75, cheapest chunks of cow you’ll have in this town.” Since I don’t eat bacon, I can’t say how good it was, but my friends Nia and Marie ended up getting it for themselves and said it was better.

I’ll have to take their word for it this time!
