Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridien in Midtown

Follow the yellow...neon burger sign

I never realized just how close I lived to Burger Joint at the Le Parker Meridien hotel. Not even two avenues away, in fact. I realized this by using my UrbanSpoon app on my iPhone of all things, which for the first time actually came in handy. Right when you get to the lobby of the hotel, you’ll know you’re at the right place — the whole place has a faint smell of burgers.

Behind floor-to-ceiling curtains lies this hidden oasis of grease. When you follow the neon burger directional to the small restaurant, you’ll see it really is a whole different world altogether. Much more laidback than the uppity lobby, you’ll find bar stools, faux-wood tables and walls are marked up and engraved by past visitors. Between tunes like Belafonte’s “Jump In The Line (Shake, Senora)” and Etta James’ “At Last”, we managed to order two medium-well cheeseburgers and fries. And they were QUICK. I mean, I barely finished my sentence and it was in my hands.

It looked perfectly chargrilled on the outside, but here was the thing with my burger — when I took it out of my brown paper bag, one side of was ice cold! I couldn’t figure it out, and realized the veggies were freezing and in turn, that side of my bread was kinda cold too. Kinda gross. I was starving though and decided to eat the rest of it anyway. Minus the subzero portion of mine, it was actually pretty good. Jainal loved his, maybe because he didn’t get jipped. The fries were nothing special…I forgot to take a picture of them, but I can compare them to something like McD’s.

But, the place does have a cool vibe and you can show off to your friends that you know of a secret (but not really secret) burger place in the city.
