Looks like Little Cupcake Bakeshop beat Billy’s to the punch at their new Nolita location. Spawning from its original Bayridge location, the cute bakery opened its doors last night at 6pm with a line out the door. By the time we got there around 9:30, it was still buzzing with patrons and heavily stocked in preparation for the crowds.

I ordered the red velvet. I had a weak moment of indecisiveness when I almost exchanged it for their cookie dough cupcake, but the lady behind the counter coaxed me into sticking with my original choice. “The red velvet here is the best — it’s everyone’s favorite.” So glad I listened to her. The red velvet was soft and gooey, with a tender center that was kinda driving me crazy. Taste-wise, it’s similar to the UES Two Little Red Hens red velvet chocolate cake. But now I can have it here, at a much more accessible/trendy location.

My friends thought the other cupcakes tasted similar to Magnolia’s, which I could kind of see. It has a little less frosting than them though. Another employee also told me they usually have tons more flavors, but since it was opening day, they were a bit limited. It’s such a great addition to the neighborhood. Should be interesting to see how the competition is once Billy’s does arrive later this Fall though!
