Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream Truck

I’m so happy there have been so many pleasant days this Fall in the city, and last Sunday was one of them. After pretty much spending the whole afternoon in the West Village, I came across Van Leeuwen’s ice cream truck — now I’m just thinking, how did I ever miss this before?

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Truck

This is seriously one of the best ice cream I’ve had in a while. The day I stumbled upon the truck, they had a special Earl Grey Tea flavor. If you’re a tea lover like me, you will loveee how this tastes so true to its flavor. The hazelnut also had such a crisp, buttery taste (they use Piedmont hazelnuts, straight from Italy).

Van Leeuwen’s keep their ingredients simple: fresh, hormone-free milk, pure cane sugar, and lots of egg yolk. It’s preservative-free and they donate a portion of the profits to Wildlife Direct, a grassroots organization based in the Congo dedicated to protect endangered species. I love do-gooder trucks.

If you have stalkerish tendencies, track the truck via their Twitter (@VLAIC). Otherwise, they have a shop in Greenpoint (address below), and also sell their ice cream through vendors like Whole Foods.
