Covering Fashion Week and a quick Fashion’s Night Out guide!

I FINALLY got back to NYC after a million delays at the airport (this weather is schizo). And that means I’m a teeny bit backed up with my posts and the guide I was planning on pulling together for you all. That said, IT’S OFFICIALLY FASHION WEEK! First off, just wanted to give you the head’s up and good news that I’ll be covering a lot of insidery happenings this week (backstage, Fashion’s Night Out, and other NYFW-related events) for Tyra Banks’ website, typeF.com! My first intro post just went live (check it out here!).

TypeF.com's Fashion Week page

You can totally stalk my FW musings over there as I’ll be updating it pretty regularly. Second: Fashion’s Night Out. A lot of you had asked me for a FNO guide because, yes, it’s hella overwhelming. I’ll try my best – since I have to be backstage in about 6 hours, here’s some quick pointers:

Essie (Bleecker Street & West 11th Street New York NY 10012) will be joining Teen Vogue for a block party that’ll be taking over Bleecker Street at 11th Street. Free manicures and essie’s celebrity manicurist, Elle Gerstein, will give you the lowdown on her celeb clients favorite nail looks.

– Go to Saks Fifth Avenue to shoot hoops with Kris Humphries (6:30 to 7:30) and Chris Bosh (9 to 10) plus meet ESPN Fashion Editor Samantha Rubin (7.30-8.30PM). On 5, get Minx manicures at Marc by Marc Jacobs. And a WHOLE lot of other things that too much to list here.

DJ Pauly D will be spinning at Dash (119 Spring St. at Greene).

Maybelline‘s top makeup artists will be on-hand to give free mini-makeovers at their Color Studio Hot Spot (set up at the Gansevoort Plaza in the Meatpacking District). PLUS their spokesmodels including Erin Wasson, Lisalla Montenegro, Jessica White, Kemp Muhl and Shu Pei Qin, will be there to sign tubes of Great Lash (it’s the iconic mascara’s 40th birthday after all). The first 300 guests will receive a limited edition Great Lash Mascara t-shirt designed by Patricia Field. DJ Chelsea Leyland will be spinning!

DKNY(655 Madison Avenue near 60th St.) Receive a DVD of the award-winning documentary Bill Cunningham New York in an exclusive, limited-edition tote with purchases of $250 or more. Get a complimentary Blind Barber haircut before you strike a pose for our street shutterbugs, who will snap your photo using the newly launched Pose App. Munch on popcorn in custom Bill Cunningham New York popcorn bags.

– There are special gifts waiting the first 50 customers who purchase something from the Fall 2011 RTW collection at Anna Sui (113 Greene Street New York NY 10012 near Prince). Anna Sui makeup artists will be on hand for mini makeovers (and a free Cosmetic Travel Kit with purchase of $55 of cosmetics). All purchases make you eligible to win a ticket to the Anna Sui Fashion Show on September 14th at 6pm, at Lincoln Center.

– It’ll be a carnival at the Alice + Olivia boutiques, with popcorn, cotton candy, and carnival games! Shoppers will also have the chance to win raffle prizes, and have their hair styled by Sebastian. (755 Madison Avenue New York NY 10021 @65th Street AND 80 West 40th Street New York NY @6th Avenue). 6-11pm.

Benefit Cosmetics (454 West Broadway New York NY 10012 near Prince Street) – Makeup lessons, brow and lash services. Receive a “gorgeous” gift card and a chance to win up to a year of free brow arch services.

Chanel will be giving mini-manicures with their newest polish, Les Jeans de Chanel (15 East 57th Street near Madison Ave., 139 Spring Street at Wooster, and 737 Madison Ave.)

– {For the fellas…} From 7-9pm, You can Flash Your ‘Stache at Bergdorf Goodman‘s. Show off your facial hair (real or faux) and have your photo taken by Ruby Kobo designer Yuvi Alpert. Complimentary beard conditioning treatments courtesy of Jack Black. You can also skip on over to listen to the Whisker Wars roundtable discussion from 7:30 – 8:15 also at the Men’s Store. Moderated by Glenn O’Brien. Writer, designer and celebrity panelists defend their points of view on the hotly-debated topic of facial hair versus clean-shaven. With special guests Whoopi Goldberg, Max Blagg, David Coggins, Cintra Wilson, Marlon Gobel, and more.

Band of Outsiders at Opening Ceremony at the ACE Hotel (20 W. 29th Street New York NY 10001 near Broadway) will have an artist on-hand for live portraits onto Band of Outsiders tote bags. Plus you’ll get a free Milk Bar cookie with purchase. And those darlings Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler will be on hand to raffle off one of their PS1 bags (I WANT!).

Macy’s at Herald Square will have celeb appearances from Kelly Rowland, Samantha Ronson, Joss Stone, Sandra Lee, Amare Stoudemire, and Miss J Alexander. Starting at 5pm at 151 West 34th Street.

VMV‘s on 869 Broadway (at 18th Street) will be having free Makeovers + Mimosas from 6-11 PM. You’ll get a Free Ooh-La-Lash! Volumizing Mascara with any purchase and a VMVerdant Bag to put your new goodies in.

OK those are some that I found (it’s also now 3AM and I NEED to sleep!). Check out http://fashionsnightout.com for the full, overwhelming, and exhausting list of events. And still after all that, if you ask me, no one’s going to be able to do everything so just go with the flow :). Where are you planning to go for FNO?

x
Shy
