American Express and Mercedes-Benz recently launched two new cards — their Mercedes-Benz credit card and the Platinum Card where users can accumulate points every time they use it at restaurants, gas stations AND gain access to invite-only experiences to private events. To celebrate and (quite literally) give us a taste of what they have to offer, AmEx and Mercedes-Benz invited me and a few other bloggers for a “Progressive Night Downtown.” First stop, the Mercedes-Benz dealership in midtown!
After a brief cocktail reception, we were led to our own Mercedes for the night to be chauffeured downtown (I know, who am I?) to our next destination: David Burke Kitchen in SoHo for a four-course meal.
When you enter the restaurant, its beauty feels almost theatrical. It’s incredibly spacious and harbors a very rustic, country-house feel. I felt like I was having an early-Thanksgiving meal (this was mid-November, mind you). Chef Burke himself would be preparing our meal for the night!
The restaurant focuses on hearty, American food. On the menu for the night: market salad (escarole/goat cheese/walnut vinaigrette); a choice of roasted organic chicken, pork chop, or salmon steak; and a generous spread of desserts.
I could barely sit up after all that food, but there was one more stop left — and that was a private performance with the most fantastic R&B singer, Janelle Monáe at Dominion.
Monáe is a little firecracker on stage. She moonwalked and jived her way through a stellar set of her catchy songs (even mixing it up with a throwback from The Jackson 5, One More Chance).
If you haven’t already, check out her hits “Tightrope” and “Cold War” — I promise you’ll be hooked.
It turned out to be one exquisite experience! Thanks to AmEx and Mercedes-Benz for a truly special night and just a glimpse of what the card has to offer. For more information on the cards, visit mbfs.com.
