Local NY beauty primping spots I love

Ah. Finally back from vacation, and just before my whirlwind trip I realized there are plenty of places in the city I go to for primping that I thought would be nice to list in one post:

For a blowout…visit Blow (342 W 14th St, btw 14 St & 8th Ave, New York, NY 10014). I went here for the first time before my trip looking for a blowout that will last til the first wedding festivity (which would be two days after touching down on the west coast!). A tall order, but Erin over here made it happen. After 45 minutes in her chair, I had volume and waves that lasted through two flights and a car ride down to the wedding. Blow outs start at $40 (for my medium length hair, it was $50 so it depends on hair type).

not me.

For a haircut, visit…Chris. He was at Medulla, but now at Brush (9 E. 19th St (Between 5th and Broadway). He’s been my go-to for a while now and I loveee his precise cuts (his resume speaks for itself — he’s also worked at Bumble & Bumble and Rita Hazan!). Also, I’ve always loved Pich at Warren-Tricomi at the Plaza if you want more options!

Satori (photo via Yelp)

For laser hair removal, visit…Satori or Pulse Laser Center. I found both of these through deal websites, but they’ve both been amazing. Satori has the most wonderful, friendly staff and they use an advanced Candela laser, which has a cooling system after you’re zapped so it’s less painful. Pulse Laser Center also has a great staff and clean facilities. Prices vary, but I’ve had great results at both places! (Tip: if you haven’t already, sign up for Living Social, Groupon, Bloomspot, and Lifebooker…they have deals to these places that come up now and again!)

For waxing, visit…Uni.K Wax (553 Third Ave. at 37th St., NY, NY 10016, 212-481-2777). Been going here for years as well. Clean place (no double-dipping and they use a new wax pot for every client). My personal favorite waxers here are Jasmine or Tabby. Friends also swear by the most painless waxes by Natasha at J’Aime Day Spa (179 Madison, 2nd Flr, btw 33rd and 34th, 212-684-4466) if you want another option!

For eyebrow threading, visit…Perfect Shape (various locations, although I go to the one on 1030 6th Ave, 2nd Flr, NY, NY 100011, 212-929-3229). Rachel Roy personally recommended this place to me and she has the most ridiculously beautiful brows so I had to oblige. Her girl is the owner, Reshma, but I’ve had a different threader every time and haven’t had a bad experience yet. Eyebrow threading is $7.

For nails…visit Polished Beauty Bar. If not for owner, Susan Nam’s, company alone. I have to admit I’m pretty bad at getting regular manicures or pedicures, but I did come back here to get a Shellac French manicure since they rocked it last time. In case you’re wondering, this is how my nails look exactly one week after getting them Shellac’d at Polished (through beach lounging, and weddings galore…yes I just took a pic of them right now with my phone!):

Shellac French Manicure a la POLISHED BEAUTY BAR

There ya go. Takes an army just to look half-decent these days, eh? Anyway, just thought I’d shout out a few of my faves. Anyone else have recommendations? Always looking for the best new places!
