Cookies N’ Crepes in Jersey City

SO I don’t spend most of my time in Jersey City, but last weekend I did have a friend who had a four-hour layover at Newark and the most convenient place to grab a bite to eat happened to be JC. This automatically meant a real classy stop at Amin’s, a JC-staple noted more for its Chinese fare than its no-frills ambiance (and happens to be a place I’ve been going to since I was a tot with my cousins in the summer). It also, by the way, has the fastest service in the tri-state area — almost too fast. I mean, I-barely-sipped-this-chicken-noodle-soup-and-lunch-is-now-served service. Also be sure to have a very in depth conversation with the polite waitress on the difference between lo mein, chow mein, and chow lo mein.  But ANYWAY. This is not about that. This is about the delicious dessert we had afterwards, at the new Cookies N’ Crepes dessert spot in downtown Jersey City.

I didn't realize the Cookie Monster was being creepy

For a relatively new place (CNC opened less than a year ago), it’s pretty cool that it can easily disguise itself as a neighborhood relic. Maybe the co-owner’s JC roots have something to do with that. The interior looks like a classic ice cream parlour, outfitted in pistachio green walls and they even serve sodas in those vintage glass bottles. Although Cookies N’ Crepes pays homage to old school dessert joints, their menu is anything but.

Cookies N Crepes

Cookie Monster photobomb.

Of course, you’ll find gooey, decadent cookies and crepes (points for no false advertising) with whimsical names like The Celebrity (banana, strawberry, nutella, and ice cream), The Empire State, and Chocolatey Chocolate Chocolate that will at least make you smile if the Cookie Monster outside hadn’t already. But alongside their namesake items, there are also completely innovative creations for the sugar-obsessed. Think a dollop of cookie dough over a freshly baked brownie.

The Celebrity

If that’s not enough to lure you in, their chocolate covered strawberries and shakes just might. You may not walk out of here skinnier, but happier? Yes, ma’am.

And then this happened

Best way to wash it all down

In short, come here. It’s amazing.
