10 things that got me through the month

I’m in denial of summer being almost over. Here are some things that have been good to me throughout the hottest of days though (and some that’ll I’ll be using through next season too).

1. LORAC Pro Contour Palette Plus Contour Brush
. There are so many contouring kits, and this one has been my go-to from small get-togethers to summer weddings. Besides it having a good range of shades for contour, you have a choice of beige or yellow highlights that give you the most natural results. It also has a shimmer powder you can use on cheek and brow bones for an extra pop. In addition to its giant mirror, the other thing I love about this is the brush it comes with. It makes it easy for even a novice to ‘cut’ and shape your face and dense enough to blend out those lines. I traveled with this and used it on my sisters for their makeup recently to a wedding, and it hasn’t failed me yet.

2. L’Occitane Iris Bleu & Iris Blanc Eau de Toilette
. This is the perfect summer scent — it’s fresh and just a touch floral without being overwhelming. The scent is just clean and beautiful and not heavy at all. I’ve been using it everyday before I run out the door.

3. BeautyBlender Blotterazzi
. This is the newest product from Beautyblender, and it’s given humid subway rides a whole new meaning. It’s the same pink as the actual BeautyBlender sponge, but unlike its predecessor it’s flat and absorbs oil (and does an awesome job doing so). Plus it’s reusable so it already has a one-up on those oil-absorbing sheets. Just use a gentle cleanser to clean it every so often — it should last a few months.

4. Marc Jacobs Beauty Lash Lifter
. My love for Marc Jacobs beauty line knows no bounds and this mascara just further proves it. The bristles on this gets every last lash and gives beautiful volume and a deep black coat.

5. NYX Cosmetics Micro Brow Pencil
. Up until now, I’ve been using pretty pricey brow pencils, but this one has really raised the bar for affordable ones. It fills in sparse areas without being harsh and it’s long-lasting. I love that it’s super skinny and dual ended with a spoilie at the end to groom brows to perfection.

6. T42 Organic Teas
. The company asked me to try it out and they couldn’t have planned it better, delivering it on the most humid, hot summer day. Not only was it refreshing, their flavors (like Jamaican Ginger, Moroccan Mint, Earl Grey, and Blueberry) taste phenomenal. I’ve been re-stocking on my own since.

7. Revlon PhotoReady Eye Art Lid+Line+Lash
. As I mentioned, I did my sisters and sister-in-law’s makeup for a wedding recently, and this cream shadow/glitter pen was a lifesaver. The cream shadows are lustrous and won’t budge, and topping it with the glitter gave it such a gorgeous pop. It’s hard to believe it’s a drugstore buy.

8. Simple Micellar Make-Up Remover Wipes.
I went home to Chicago recently for a wedding and forgot my Simple wipes here and it was easily one of the worst things ever. Never again. Simple’s wipes have been my longtime favorite to begin with, and they just made it even better. They got really creative when they realized how popular their Micellar Cleansing Water was, and infused it into their equally popular cleansing wipes. It’s the only perfect marriage I know of. It removes even waterproof makeup easily, gently, and without irritating my skin.

9. Buxom True Hue Blush in Temptation
. Don’t let the bright pink scare you — it actually leaves just the most beautiful, subtle flush of pink for all skin tones but especially medium ones.

10. Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel, Original Strength
. Sometimes facials don’t go as planned. I went for one recently and it left some blemishes behind, so I turned to this peel to help even out my complexion. It’s really the best to help even your skin out, and has been getting my complexion back on track.
