Chrissy Teigen gets candid at her bridal shower for her upcoming wedding to John Legend

“I’m sorry, I think I just grabbed your ass.” This is the first thing model Chrissy Teigen says to me after we hug at our one-year reunion.

Me with the gorgeous Chrissy Teigen

Our “reunion” was really her bridal shower which Gillette Venus hosted for her at the rooftop of The Strand hotel at NYC to celebrate her upcoming nuptials to singer John Legend. And what better way to celebrate the beautiful and hilarious spokesperson for the brand? She was visibly touched by the gesture (“I’ve never even been to a bridal shower before!” she told us), and equally down to answer most questions about her upcoming wedding. “John never does this, but he had to take me aside and say, ‘Chrissy, you need to just say no to some questions’…but you know what, f*ck it.” Besides revealing that she will have a destination wedding, FOUR outfit changes, a crepe-ey Lady M style cake that’s “a couple hundred layers,” Teigen sat with me to give me a couple more extra details about the big day:

Beauty and the Feast:
What are you most excited about for your upcoming wedding to your fiancé, John Legend?
Chrissy Teigen: I’m going to treat this wedding as a family reunion of sorts. I’m most excited about seeing my dad’s face when he gets to see all his kids and everyone together.

BATF:
Do you have anything left that has to be planned?
Teigen: Yes. Everything. We’ve done the guest list, but we haven’t sent any invites…

BATF:
Oh yeah, I’m still waiting for mine…
Teigen: I know! That’s the reason you haven’t gotten yours! [laughs] We’re taking our sweet ass time.

BATF:
What’s the cuisine going to be like?
Teigen: The cuisine will be very hearty without letting people fall asleep. It’s my favorite type of cuisine, but I feel like if I give it away then you’ll know where we’re getting married!

BATF:
I love your hair today! Are you going to do something similar for your wedding?
Teigen: Thank you! It IS going to be something very similar. We’re going to do a messy updo. Maybe some flowers. But for the most part, very natural, messy, not too much thought – I mean it will take hours. You know when “natural looks” take hours? That’s how it will be like.

.

BATF:
I was looking at the new Venus & Olay razors and noticed their new Sugarberry scent bars. If you could scent your own razor, what would it be? I have a feeling you’re going to say bacon…
Teigen: Oh man! See, I love bacon but everyone sends me like bacon toothpaste and all these things with crazy bacon shit. I don’t want bacon flavored shit, I just love bacon! If I was going to scent my own Venus bar, it would be like chocolate pudding. Something very sweet. What they’ve already done is amazing but chocolate pudding would be delicious. OH man! I would love chocolate pudding!

The bridal shower cake and 'razor cakes' as Chrissy called them

BATF:
You’ve been a Venus spokesperson for over a year now. What has been your favorite part about representing such a great brand?
Teigen: I get emotional thinking about things like this. It takes a lot to be a brand ambassador. You have to have the perfect personality, you have to be mindful of what you say, and I think it’s very cool they took me on because I’m very outspoken. I’m nuts. I’m sure there have been times where they’ve been like, Oh my God! Why did you say that?! But they are wonderful and I’m happy to represent them. We’re doing one of our last events soon and I think I’m really going to cry! I’m going to be really sad because they’ve been so awesome to me.

Teigen and her adorable mother

BATF:
We’re kinda obsessed with your captions and hashtags at my apartment. Your #mymomisgrindingpeppercornsbecauseidontknowwhy was one of our favorites. You’re so great on Instagram!
Teigen: But sometimes I’m so boring! You never know what’s going to do well.

BATF:
Are you more careful about what you post?
Teigen: I am more careful. Not because of that little Instagram snafu of the spray tan thing. But I’m more careful just because I represent an amazing brand and I don’t want them to look bad. But I would tweet a lot more things if I could.

BATF:
Are you going to be Instagramming on your wedding day?
Teigen: I’m sure I’ll get drunk and Instagram a lot. I’m actually positive of it. I mean like, we’ll be very hush hush, and then I’m sure at like midnight I’ll be like, “WE GOT MARRIED B*TCHES!!!!”

Oh, Chrissy. This is why we love you.

3 new drugstore buys under $10

I keep meaning to do a regular weekly column on awesome drugstore buys, but I’m still thinking of a cute name. Any ideas? Until then, here are some of my current faves that I’m pretty sure you’ll love too for all intents and purposes (or at least, many of them):

Q-tips Precision Tips ($3.50)

Q-tips Precision Tips

This might seem like the strange thing to write about, but you know those things that you never knew you needed but now can’t live without? Right here. They’re not the normal rounded Q-tips, these are their pointy Precision Tips. Anyone who does any type of eye makeup – even if you limit it to just mascara or only eye liner – you need these. A regular Q-tip can’t get into tricky areas like the tear duct and creases like this one to clean up any stray mascara or shadow like these. Even smoking out your eyes (you know how you apply eye liner, then ‘smudge out’ with a cotton swab? Yes? No? Shall I do a tutorial on this?), is ten times easier with these babies.

John Frieda Style Revival ($9)

John Frieda Full Repair Style Revival Spray

Love this spray because it protects my hair from blow drying but also gives it body and movement. It’s a styling spray with a flexible polymer technology (means it coats your hair to protect it but won’t leave it stiff and bee-hivey like so). It’s heat-activated and weightless so you won’t feel like you have a ton of product in your hair. What’s more, it uses Inca Ichi Oil that also helps penetrate damaged strands to help mend flyaways.

Dial Skin Therapy Himalayan Pink Salt & Water Lily Replenishing Body Wash ($5)

Note, I don’t even have a picture of the product in front of me to take since I went through it so fast. Whenever one of us at the apartment uses this, it leaves us (and the bathroom) smelling heavenly. Seems like the perfect transition into spring (which by the way, seems to be taking forever in making up its mind here). This new body wash has Himalayan salt, which contains 84 minerals & elements.

Dial Skin Therapy Body Wash (cheating with a screen image of the product)

Since we’re on the topic of Dial anyway, their new 7 Day Moisturizing Lotions ($7) are ridiculous (meant in the most affectionate way possible). It contains shea butter and packed with a non-greasy formula.

Dial 7 Day Moisturizing Lotion -- at least I'm still going through this to take a pic!

I got the product being a tad skeptical — how can you even tell it’s working for seven days (assuming we shower/dry out our skin at least a few times in that time period). But after a couple weeks of use, my normally dry skin is smooth as ever, even in between showers. A huge feat to conquer — where was this last winter?!

Which new drugstore finds have you come across lately?

Dove uncovers the Truth with Samantha Bee of The Daily Show

Last week, as part of Dove’s Truth Files Campaign, The Daily Show’s very own Samantha Bee hosted an event where she told us some of her personal truths. “Ladies,” she asked, “can you exfoliate to a point where you get a completely different face? I was using my Clarisonic the other day, and I swear I hit a patch of skin from the future.”

Samantha Bee of The Daily Show (Photo by Neilson Barnard/Getty Images for Dove)

Such were among some of Bee’s hilarious reflections of the night. While Dove was demonstrating the “truths” about our skin and body care products in booths scattered around the event, Bee talked to me about how she was celebrating April Truth Day:

Beauty and the Feast:
How did you get involved with Dove and Truth Day?
Samantha Bee: Well, it’s a great partnership for me because I’ve used Dove my entire life, since I was a little baby really. My grandma even used their Beauty Bar. I’ve admired their advertising and brand over the years so I thought it was a good fit.

BATF:
What’s the most surprising thing you found when you were interviewing people on the street about sharing their truths?
Bee: It’s amazing how much truth people will lay on you. People told me far too much. We didn’t use a lot because it ended up being so personal! I mean, people told us about relationships that went sour. I think people want to tell their stories and they want to be heard. When you least expect it, they’ll share something deeply personal.

BATF:
Did you fall for any April Fools jokes? I think I fell for like five.
Bee: That’s adorable. Well, I think people know better. And for the record, I did not perpetrate any untruths. I’m all about truth. April Truth Day, through and through.

Bee sharing her truths at the Dove event

Packed house at the April Truth Day event!

BATF:
What’s the one truth about you you’d want to share today?
Bee: I sometimes hide from my children. Even though I hear them calling my name and I just don’t come out. I don’t respond. I know they’re safe and I know they’re okay, and if I know they’re okay, I just pretend I don’t hear them. Sometimes you have to…sometimes you have to.

BATF:
What is your beauty truth?
Bee: Other than Dove Beauty Bar, I try to leave myself alone a bit. Less is more.

BATF:
Do your kids love it too?
Bee: Absolutely. We’re a Dove family!

BATF:
Truth: favorite thing about Jon Stewart?
Bee: He’s so smart! So, so, so smart. That is the absolute truth!

Truth booths

BATF: Best thing working at The Daily Show?
Bee: Everyday is completely different. It’s an adventure working there. You never know what to expect.

BATF:
Are you competitive with your husband, Jason Jones, on the show?
Bee: We can’t compete with each other, because I give him all my good jokes [laughs]. We did this trivia game show in Canada and I was obsessed. I didn’t really think of myself of a competitive person but when I was on this game show, I was like, I’m gonna win this thing – like, don’t even try it. It just came out of me!

Me and Lara Eurodolian of Prettyconnected.com with Samantha Bee!

BATF:
Truth, who’s funnier – you or your husband?
Bee: Obviously, it’s me. But let’s not tell him that.

BATF:
He probably doesn’t read my blog.
Bee: You never know…

BATF:
The other part of my blog is food, so wondering if you have any favorite restaurants in the city that you like to go to with your family.
Bee: It’s super fancy, but my husband took me to Le Bernardin for our anniversary and I flipped out. It was my first time there. It was a real experience. When I go out, I mean I have little kids (they’re two-, four-, and seven-years-old), and we don’t eat out too often but I really love good food. So when we go out, we try to make a big deal about it because I just want to be taken care of. I want to be in a soft chair, I want it to be relaxing, I want all the food to be delicious. There, you can’t go wrong. Everything is perfect.

BATF:
What in your opinion would be the best way to celebrate Truth Day?
Bee: Call up one person you love and tell them something true about your relationship. I just made that up right now, but it’s pretty nice, right?

Simple Sugars — a line for the sensitive skin peeps

Well, here’s an easy way to feel like I’ve done nothing with my life: when Lani Lazzari was 11-years-old, she was already a budding entrepreneur. With the help of a small investment from her parents ($2,000), she turned her basement into a lab of sorts, experimenting with organic ingredients from her local Whole Foods in an attempt to concoct all-natural skin products that would suit her own sensitive skin (she dealt with bouts of eczema). Today, she’s turned that into a line she named Simple Sugars. And make no mistake about it — the products she’s come up with are kind of phenomenal.

Green tea facial and Pink Grapefruit body scrub

My introduction to the line have been her Green Tea Facial Scrub and Pink Grapefruit Body Scrub.

Green Tea Facial Scrub

The Green Tea facial is loaded with antioxidants and anti-aging properties, and although it’s a sugar scrub, the oils make it gentle enough to use everyday (as I have been for a few weeks now). It’s been leaving my skin extra smooth, and soft without irritating it at all.

Pink Grapefruit Body Scrub

The scrubs are made from all-natural, preservative-free ingredients

The Pink Grapefruit Body Scrub is another product with aromatherapy benefits (it helps you feel uplifted and revived), but grapefruit oil is also known as a great lymphatic drainage massage to help reduce the appearance of cellulite. It left my skin like velvet. I can’t wait to check out more from the collection now!

Drugstore Buy: Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash

The cold wreaks havoc on my skin. I get stuck in a vicious cycle of dry, scaley skin on my legs, which gets uncomfortably itchy. Sometimes even lotion doesn’t cut it, which made me realize I need to get started in the shower. Interesting fact: you might think you’re doing yourself good by taking hot showers, but the reality of it is our skin is made of natural proteins that protect our skin, and those frequent/warm baths actually strip our skin of this barrier. Hence, it actually aggravates the dryness. Harsh soaps make this even worse by washing away natural conditioning oils.

Solution? Tone down the temperature in the shower, and use a gentle cleanser that’s also moisturizing. I found both in Dove’s Deep Moisture Body Wash.

Dove Deep Moisture body wash

It contains glycinate, which is an ultra-mild ingredient used in a lot of high-end facial products. Plus it has moisturizing ingredients, like soybean, sunflower seed, and coconut. I can feel (and see) the difference when I use it. And the price ($5), ain’t too shabby either.

Product Review: Lush Ocean Salt Scrub

If you haven’t heard, exfoliating is important! Not only does it keeps skin looking fresh, it sloughs off dead skin cells so your skin is brighter and less prone to clogged pores. Makeup goes on smoother, and your skin creams are able to penetrate better to be more effective. It’s a double-edged sword though — most sensitive types can’t handle too much scrubbing, which can also lead to irritation.

I fall somewhere in between where my skin can handle (and needs) something a little more heavy duty than a cleanser soft microbeads, but nothing too harsh. I felt like Goldilocks (but with far darker hair) looking for something that was just right. My first answer is the Clarisonic, but if you’re working your way up to shelling out on a device, consider Lush Ocean Salt scrub in the mean time.

Lush Ocean Salt scrub

This has easily become my favorite natural exfoliator by far. It’s genius because they combine clusters of fine and coarse ocean salt with hydrating ingredients like fresh avocado and coconut. They also toss in brightening grapefruit and lime. Your skin will feel soft (not tight) afterwards. I should mention this scrub can also be used for the body, but I feel like it’s too precious to use all of it up in the shower so I keep it near my sink to use before bed a couple days a week. Again, be diligent if you know your skin is extra sensitive…but for me, it’s just right.
