Caudalíe Paris’ fragrance launch at The Plaza Hotel in NY
By Nicci Jordan Hubert
There are some moments in life you just won’t forget. My trip to The Plaza for Caudalíe’s fragrance launch was one of those moments. Here’s what happened:
As I stepped out of the non-glamorous subway, wearing my non-glamorous practical footwear, I looked to my right and saw the shimmering beacon of NYC luxury, The Plaza hotel. Unable to avoid the slight shame of switching shoes in public, I did what I had to do (I went all out and wore these babies), then glided along the sidewalk ready for a brush with luxury. The moment I entered, the elegant surroundings didn’t disappoint. It’s a beautiful place, but you didn’t need to hear that from me.
I was sent up to the 4th floor, to the Caudalíe Vinothérapie Spa. The lovely treatment director, Régine, greeted me, and I was swept away into a tour. Wow. Everything–everything–is perfect. From the soft aroma to the bowl of grapes on the guest table to the peacefully flowing water fountain to the beautiful employees with perfect skin, I felt as though I was transported to my very own ideal alternate universe. “Can I move in?” I asked one of the employees, to which she gave a warm and polite smile, even though I know she’s heard that question a million times.
Fact of the day from YouBeauty.com: Women like manly smells
If you guys haven’t heard yet, Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Michael Roizen are coming out with a new science-based beauty website, YouBeauty.com. It launches this summer, but you should sign up for their emails now because they’re already delivering most fascinating beauty tidbits!
Take today’s for example — apparently women can sniff out an attractive man (literally): “Austrian researchers gave women sweat-soaked shirts worn by men and asked them to rate which one smelled best. Amazingly, the women in the most fertile phase of their cycles picked the duds worn by the most attractive and symmetrical men. Why? Because we instinctively want to pass on good genes to our kids. Sweat, it seems, is one of the many ways we unconsciously know that he’s ‘the one.’”

GIVEAWAY: Jersey Shore Sammi Sweetheart’s new Dangerous perfume and tank top
With the whole clogged toilet fiasco this season, I’m not the first to say that Jersey Shore technically conjures up an association with good smells. But looks like Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola has set to change that image by coming out her very first perfume, Dangerous. I didn’t know what to expect, but I was sent the perfume to review from Mandee (the first and only brick-and-mortar retailer to carry “Dangerous”) and found out it has a lot of interesting sweet-floral notes: Mandarin, Almond, Jasmine, Honeysuckle, Vanilla and Brown Sugar. It ends up having a sort of fresh sandalwood scent to it.
You can enter to win a full size bottle here, along with a black racer-back tank top with a “Jersey girls are dangerous” screen print in the front (Hey, go big or go home people).
Do one of the following to enter, both to increase your chances of winning:
1. Leave a comment below (optional: for my entertainment purposes, make it your favorite Jersey Shore scene/one-liner).
Latest fragrance purchase: Lavanila Pure Vanilla
I can never get sick of experimenting with fragrances. Now that we’re well into spring, I wanted to buy something that smells fresh, but still rich. I’m obsessed with notes of vanilla (I always loved the smell of it when I bake or infused in candles), and I remember once I was invited by Mémoire Liquide Bespoke Perfumery to mix scents and create a personal fragrance oil (similar to my experience with Aromachology, but this was in the form of an oil). I decided to keep it simple, and asked for straight vanilla. It was full-bodied but not overpowering, and smelled so sweet. I savored every last drop in that little bottle, only lightly applying the heavenly smell to my wrists. I started looking for more vanilla-based scents. On a recent trip to Sephora, I found Lavanila Laboratories’ Pure Vanilla perfume.
