Burgers at Corner Bistro

By Burger Guy

Corner Bistro

I haven’t been in NY long enough to visit my favorite food places since July. Yesterday, I was really craving some Joe’s Pizza, so I went downtown and had a burger at Corner Bistro instead [Editor's Note: If he read Shy's review, he would have known this already].

This place is well hyped among burger afficionados. Hype being the key word there. For six bucks and change you get a nice plump patty on a soft bun. The meat’s cooked pretty much perfectly and its really tasty. This is a decent burger. I don’t get the hype though…people wait outside for hours to get into this place. It makes no sense. Save yourself the trouble, it’s not all that. Not saying it’s bad, but I wouldn’t travel far to get it. Calm down guys.

Animal Style burgers and fries at Cali’s In-N-Out Burger

This should make Melissa proud. I was in Cali recently and decided to introduce my lil sis to In-N-Out Burger (it was her first time on the West coast).

Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridien in Midtown

Follow the yellow...neon burger sign

I never realized just how close I lived to Burger Joint at the Le Parker Meridien hotel. Not even two avenues away, in fact. I realized this by using my UrbanSpoon app on my iPhone of all things, which for the first time actually came in handy. Right when you get to the lobby of the hotel, you’ll know you’re at the right place — the whole place has a faint smell of burgers.

Burgers and baked mac n cheese at Brooklyn Bowl

Say what you will about hipsters, but their digs usually have some pretty good grub. Take Brooklyn Bowl, for example. Inside, you’ll find ironic t-shirts and fedoras galore (and of course, a huge concert space right next to the bowling alleys — because there must be a space for the band). If you’re waiting for a lane, order a cheeseburger to keep you company. You won’t regret.

I practically inhaled it. Their baked mac ‘n cheese was pretty legit too…

Burgers at Corner Bistro – Greenwich Village

Corner Bistro calls itself the “last of the Bohemian bars” in the village. I’m not really sure what that means. But, it definitely made its mark in the area, where I heard there’s usually a line out the door for a spot to eat here. My friends and I picked a good time to go though: right after work on a weekday. While it was still packed when we went, we got a table right away.

When we asked for the menu, the waiter looked at us funny and pointed to the opposite wall where there was only about eight things on the menu including a burger; a cheeseburger; a bistro burger (with bacon); and fries.

Otarian – an environmentally-conscious lunch spot

I just recently returned to the green-friendly Hearst building to find a new green-friendly restaurant next door, Otarian. Last week was the first time I actually stopped inside the whimsically decorated restaurant — it’s outfitted in bright woven baskets hanging on the wall and sleek furniture — and looks so clean it makes you feel like you can eat off the floor. I found out later the restaurant, owned by Radhika Oswal, grew out of its London outpost and prides itself on being the world’s first low-carbon restaurant with a vegetarian/fusion menu.

Designed to create the smallest carbon footprint possible, all the packaging is compostable and furniture, all recycled. You’ll also be surrounded with enviro-conscious messages (check your napkin, it might read: “Forest area equivalent to the size of Greater New York City is lost every two days due to livestock production”).
