Where did the name “Chicken 65″ come from?

For those of you who don’t know, Chicken 65 is one of the most amazing Indian dishes ever. Deep-fried, red, spicy — just so good. The thing is, it’s not clear where the name “65″ comes from.

I attempted to investigate this while I was in India. Check it out:

Chillen at the Chowmahalla Palace in Hyderabad :)

Yesterday, after feeling like a super tourist from spending the day at the Salar Jung museum and the beautiful Chowmahalla Palace, we took a food break at Ohri’s food court for chaat.

Chaat is a small snack that’s a mix of potatoes, fried crispy dough, onions, coriander, topped with yogurt, green chilies, sweet tamarind sauce, and chutney.

Dosas. Yummy Dosas.

OH man.

I think I need to dedicate a whole month to the food I’m eating in India. It’s so delicious!

For example, my breakfast this morning: dosas. A crepe-like bread you eat with chutneys and in this case, potatoes.

So, I’m in India. Which basically means having the best food ever every day :) .

Bad news is I haven’t had my camera on me for most of this feasting, though I still have some pictures scattered around from borrowed cameras. More to come on that.

It’s been hard to even think about eating out when my family has been making such amazing food at home. Today though, I finally ate out at two hotels for breakfast and a mini lunch — the latter at the Marriott in Hyderabad for some appetizers and dessert. I was too full from eating earlier to have anything more!!

Delicious dosas at Saravana Bhavan

Well, this is something I don’t do often: I ate at an Indian restaurant!

It was at my friend, Farah’s, suggestion, and my rule-of-thumb when I eat out with her is just to follow since she never fails with leading me into delicious happenings.

Saravana Bhavan, a chain Indian/Vegetarian dosa house, was no exception. Dosas are crispy Indian crepes normally filled with a potato masala or a mix of spices. They are also served with a side of different kinds of chutneys, as was the case here.
