Nothing appetizing in the caf today so bought myself the weirdest lunch: Hummus, sea salt and pepper potato chips and coffee. Follow Beauty and the Feast on Twitter

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

There is no way back for me now. I am going to take you on journeys you've never dreamed were possible.

I caught the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit at the MET last week. The madness and genius of the late-designer will have you leaving the exhibit awe-struck and inspired. Today’s the last day to catch it yourself. The museum will remain open until midnight to accommodate as many last-minute visitors as possible — and expect there to be a lot. I went on a Tuesday afternoon and the hoards of people caused me to endure a two-hour wait just to get in. A very worth it two-hour wait, might I add.

Inspiration of the Day: Yuna

Yuna performing at Webster Hall

I don’t think I’ve ever had one of our “Beauty on the Streets” serve as my “Inspiration of the Day” in the same week…but I can’t help it this time! After just barely missing her first NYC show at the Mercury Lounge the first time she was in town, I was pumped to catch Yuna at Webster Hall last night, opening for Raphael Saadiq. Needless to say, she blew the crowd away, playing songs from her new EP, Decorate, and even throwing in a cover of Nirvana’s Come As You are (gahhh one of my faves!!), just adding to the list of reasons why she’s so brilliantly talented. Check out some snippets of her performance last night below:

Inspiration of the day: Rue La La pancakes

I always tease my sister-in-law for being addicted to shopping sites. I pretty much nicknamed her “Rue La La,” after one of her favorites. Naturally, I joined the site because of her and today when I was logging in, I saw this picture of the name drizzled with syrup over pancakes. I just thought it was pretty.

A shopping addict's breakfast

I’m going to make her the same ones one day.

James Weber and The Kanji Cosmetics Project

Photographer James Weber recently chronicled his daunting task to create the seven kanji signs (Love, Life, Harmony, Dream, Happiness, Flower, and Strength) — using only cosmetics. With the help of makeup artist Moani Lee and graphic artist David H., the three came up with some incredible works of art using MAC makeup for Hea7en magazine. Each creation was laid out next to a graphic image of the symbol, so whatever you see on the right are not digital creations (shocking, I know!). But Weber tells us how each was made on his blog. The results are gorgeous…Check it out below:

MAC Baby’s on Fire (Dazzle) Lipstick

MAC Electric Eel Eyeshadow/Vibrant Grape Eyeshadow/Mascara in Black/Golden Lemon Pigment/Neo Orange Pigment/Fuchsia Pigment

MAC Gloss Lipmix

MAC Shirelle Nail Laquer

MAC Iridescent Powder / Loose in Golden Bronze mixed with MAC Matte (Creme Matifiante)

MAC Mineralize All-Over Lotion

MAC Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation

All photos via Weber’s blog. Check it out to learn more about the process and see pics of the works in progress!
