In search of a won’t-kiss-off-on-my-boyfriend lip color
By Archana Ram
I’ve been pretty proud of my minimal makeup routine of eyeliner plus concealer for years (12 to be exact), but once I hit my mid-twenties, I wanted to step up my game. Eyeshadows quickly proved to be too tricky, leaving me looking like I got a black eye. And with my already-rosy complexion, too much blush makes look like I’m trying to channel Bozo. Instead, I’ve recently become enamored by lipstick. But with a voracious appetite and a boyfriend I’m not afraid to smooch in public, I needed one that was long-lasting (for food) and wouldn’t rub off (for him).
And so was my mission. I tried three highly recommended lip colors: CoverGirl’s Outlast All-Day Lip Color, CoverGirl’s Outlast lipstain and lipstick by U.K. brand Illamasqua. For all three, I wore them for about four hours, which included a dinner.
4 body moisturizers that have been good to me
I’ve only recently been a body lotion hoarder. I’ve always been lazy about moisturizing after the shower, but now I realize it makes SO much of a difference. My skin feels exceptionally silky, and (per my obsession with smell), I’m crazy over the fresh scents that are left behind long after I apply. I switch it up pretty regularly, and here are the four that I’ve been jonesing on lately:
You may associate Dial with the standard orange anti-bacterial soaps, but they recently came out with a line of body lotions that are SERIOUS. The lotions are lightweight and absorb quickly. My favorite is the one formulated for Extra Dry Skin with shea butter. No joke, I applied it after a shower in my room and my roommate asked me from the other room what I’m wearing because it smelled so good (and yes, my roommates’ reactions are often used as a litmus test for the products I play around with). Helps that these are also loaded with antioxidants and loaded with vitamins. And PS, they also have an extra-hydrating Men’s counterpart with skin-conditioning niacinamide.
The new Sedu Revolution Clipless Iron (and sister bonding time)
I think discovering clipless irons has changed my hair life. It’s been the only type of iron I’ve been able to use on myself to make gorgeous waves that hold. Folica.com sent me their latest and greatest clipless to review, the Sedu Revolution and it.is.FANTASTIC. I decided instead of making another tutorial of myself (I’m pretty sure you guys are sick of me trying to curl my hair in front of a camera anyway), I decided to switch things up a bit, so I enlisted my sister Haji to help me review it.
Well, there’s actually two reasons I wanted her help — first, ever since I posted my last tutorial about how to use a clipless, she has been begging me use one on her. Second, she has been blessed with GORGEOUS thick, dark hair. I knew this would be fun.
Make Up For Ever Lab Shine glosses
Make Up For Ever just released their Lab Shine series and if you’re looking for a shiny pop of color, look no further. There are three variations: the Diamond Collection that has a shimmery/transparent finish; the Star Collection, which contains their trademark Star Powder in it and is a little more opaque; and the Metal Collection with has a more sleek, chrome finish. Each of the shades show which collection they belong to depending if they start with ‘D’, ‘S’, or ‘M’.
LOVE – Tarte’s LipSurgence Lip Stains!
I don’t know what took me so long to try Tarte’s fabulous range of chubby LipSurgence lip stains, but I’ve finally come around. They have the most delightful colors and come in different finishes (luster, tints, and mattes). Apparently, I’m the last to know because I’ve already realized my friends have been way ahead of me in the obsession. Let’s start with Joy (a peach lip tint) which was my introduction to the line. It’s more on the orange side, which makes it kind of my first time dabbling with that shade of lip color:
Product Review: Tone Vino Moisture Body Wash
What’s your favorite body wash right now? Recently, I’ve been trying a few varieties from Tone. Not only do they have some pretty wonderful scents, their consistencies are denser than the average shower gels. I had previously been indulging in their Daily Detox White Clay & Pink Jasmine (it has the most soothing fragrance) until I was recently sent their Vino Moisture Body Wash, launching this month.
One reason I’m thankful for my lovely roommates is that they help dissect what they like (or don’t) about new beauty products with me. When I stuck this in shower, one of my roommates immediately began raving about how pretty it smells. I couldn’t agree more — it has fruit-based but not overpowering scent, and leaves my skin so soft. That can probably be credited to its moisturizing shea butter formula (note: my new obsession with shea butter to come in a future post) and conditioning Vitamin E. It’s one of the more affordable body washes on the market too (only $3.99). I may not drink wine, but kind of vino therapy is something I can get used to.
