Lessons on Smoky Eyes and the J. Lo Glow with Urban Girl Squad

Fresh makeovers with Urban Girl Squad

Urban Girl Squad

Ever since I met Amanda Hofman, the founder of Urban Girl Squad, at a boudoir event she coordinated that I happened to be covering for lingerie boutique, Sugar Cookies, I have been psyched to attend an UGS event myself. UGS organizes social networking events for women in NYC, but their events are far from any ordinary way to do so. They can range anywhere from African dance classes, to rifle shooting lessons, to cooking with season vegetables, and even cigar smoking tips (just to name a few). Above all, I was dying to try one of their beauty classes. When I was told they were having a makeover session by cosmetic brands Fresh (on how to get that J. Lo glow) and Make Up For Ever (on smoky eyes), I immediately signed up. I realized there are 10,000 ways to do a smoky eye. Here are some tips from Make Up For Ever:

Victoria’s Secret limited-edition Hypnotic Beauty Kajal

OK, I totally get that there’s a hurricane coming outside. But truth be told, the first thing I really wanted to do this morning was test out the new Victoria’s Secret Kajal Eye Liner I just bought yesterday. Is it sad that these are my priorities? :-/

Victoria's Secret Hypnotic Beauty Kajal Eyeliner

I came across this kajal eyeliner from their limited-edition Hypnotic Beauty Collection first when scouring their website recently. If you remember, the last kajal eye liner I tested (and loved) was Guerlain’s Kohl Kajal which costs about $36. But if you don’t have that kind of dough to shell out, get this: VS’s costs less than half that $15!

I’m a sucker for packaging, and the royal blues box design and gold case that it comes looks like it’s ready to take a trip down the runway itself.

How to: Smoky Eyes by MAC’s Mickey Contractor team

Smoked out MAC shadows

Bollywood pretty much has the smoky eye down on lock. So of course, when I sat down with one of their biggest makeup artists, M.A.C’s Mickey Contractor, I made sure I’d ask him about how to get the smoky eye look so many of us are still trying to perfect (that includes me). Instead of telling me, he asked one of his assistants, Donnie Hsiao, to show me! Donnie went right to work, telling me exactly what he was using to achieve the look while he worked:
