I’m sure many of you have already heard the horrific news that Max Brenner, a restaurant that specializes in chocolate drinks and desserts, closed their 9th St – East Village location last July.
Even though it’s the smaller one between the two in NY (the other being the Union Square location), I had a special place in my heart for it, mainly because it was on birthday two years ago that I was introduced to it by my cousins and sister. We basically went from being on a chocolate high, to almost falling over from chocolate overload.
In fact, I dug up a video of my sister documenting my very first bite of the chocolate cake that night. Let’s share, why not.
We’re embarrassing.
I was actually shocked at the chocolatey goodness. I would show you more videos of us after our sugar feasting that night, but we got way too hyper (seriously, my voice in the videos are easily a few octaves higher).
Anyway. I had to inquire about the store closing, and Max Brenner’s peeps got back to me to say that they closed that location so that they can focus efforts on the new Philly location on 1500 Walnut St.
“Philadelphia, which will follow the Union Square model, will have wonderful pedestrian traffic, tourism, and a large population of nearby hotels, all of which we are confident will boost our brand’s exposure and profile.”
So that’s the word.
Another thing: I noticed earlier this year that their food menu had changed. Good thing too, because while I love their brunch, I wasn’t super crazy about their dinner options. They now have things like crunchy mac & cheese balls, thai chicken satay, and pizza! All served in MB’s signature creative dinnerware.
Just remember if you’re planning on going, go EARLY. There is usually a wait for dinner!
Ok, I’m HUNGRY.
