I’ve been on a egg-eating binge lately. I cook mine only using egg whites though, discarding the yolk. I started to feel really guilty throwing food away, so I looked up some great DIY hair conditioners that use egg yolks. They’re supposed to be phenom for your hair — they’re naturally rich in vitamins A, D, E and traces of B which strengthens hair and prevents hair loss. Vitamin A is particularly moisturizing for dry hair and scalp to prevent dandruff; vitamin D facilitates hair growth; E increases oxygen absorption and vitamin B helps improve blood circulation. Not to mention, egg yolks are rich in fatty acids, helping with shine.
Below are some hair recipes I found using egg yolk — just remember not to rinse out with hot water or you’ll risk cooking the eggs…yes, on your head.
For hair loss:
2 egg yolks
2 tbsp sesame or almond oil
1 lemon
Mix 2 egg yolks with 2 tbsp of sesame or almond oil and a dash of lemon. Wet hair then use the mixture to massage on your scalp and hair. Wrap hair in a towel or shower cap for 30-45 minutes then shampoo out.
For shine/extra conditioning:
2 eggs yolks
2 tbsp olive or castor oil
Mix egg yolks with 2 tbsp of olive or castor oil and apply to dry hair and scalp. Leave on for 20-30 minutes and rinse out in the shower.
For split ends:
1 egg yolk
1 tsp honey
2 tbsp olive oil
Mix all together and massage into wet hair hair, concentrating on the ends. Wrap hair in a shower cap for 30 minutes. Shampoo out.
Do you know of any other hair treatments using eggs?

This is such a good article. I also only eat egg whites.
LOL to not using hot water.
These were some eggcellent tips!
you can also use it in a face mask.
So I tried egg yolk/honey mix last night — hair feels so smooth/soft today…and the mask didn’t smell bad surprisingly. I’m gonna keep at it 🙂
This is such a great idea! My husband is always yelling at me for throwing out the yolks.. now I know what to do with them!
Giving the split end treatment a try!! I added about half a mushed banana to the mix also, potassium is supposed to be good for your hair. Wish me luck!!
My brother suggested I may like this web site. He was entirely right.
