Inspiration of the Day: 14 Actors Acting

Preceding The New York Times Magazine‘s Hollywood Issue,” director Solve Sundsbo created black and white shorts to supplement the print edition called “Fourteen Actors Acting: A Video Gallery of Classic Screen Types.” Each of the moving portraits feature one of the brilliant actors whom are said to have defined cinema in 2010, including James Franco, Natalie Portman, Matt Damon, Michael Douglas, and Robert Duvall. The compelling videos present a snapshot of an emotion or state, and while the films are silent, it does feature musical scores by the classically trained Owen Pallett.

Some of them were a little haunting, some a little strange. But I thought overall it was beautifully poignant in the way it showcases each individual’s talent (you can pause Matt Damon’s short at any point, for example, and can literally see how he acts with every part of his body…he exudes anger flawlessly in his eyes, his movement, his skin). I guess, coming from a media point of view, I also thought it was a pretty interesting undertaking for a magazine. I wonder if other magazines will follow suit?
