Stylist Patricia Field and U by Kotex hold design contest to empower women

Patricia Field talking about her new mission to Ban the Bland

Leave it to a color-obsessed fashion icon like Patricia Field (who’s claim to fame include Sex and the City, Ugly Betty, and Confessions of a Shopoholic) to team up with U by Kotex and “Ban the Bland” — and we mean your feminine products.

We met with the stylist last week at Eventi Hotel to learn about the new contest which runs until June 29th. U by Kotex and Patricia are inviting young women to share their inspirations through an online design contest. To enter, a pad, accessory or inspiration board can be designed and submitted at www.BantheBland.com for the chance to work with Patricia to design a new U by Kotex product and to attend a runway show at Fashion Week in New York City. Designs will be accepted now until through June 29 and then everyone can vote for the winning designs online from August 1 through 24. And she doesn’t want you to hold back: patterns, animal-print, glitter. It’s all your call.

Field also introduced these discreet (but not-so-discreet) tins she designed — over 55 designs from a single sheet of metal so every one is unique.

You’ll find all the tools you need on the website, and I think you should just design something even if you’re not feeling particularly adroit in the designing arena. Why? For every design submitted online, $1 will goes to Girls For A Change(1) – a national non-profit organization that empowers girls to create and lead social change within their communities.
