Buena Vista Bistro in the Design District – Miami

Faraz's Orangina-slash-contribution to my Buena Vista post

My trip to Miami a few weeks ago was a whirlwind, but I still managed to squeeze in brunch at Buena Vista Bistro before I left with my friends Shahla and Faraz. I think Paris was still on their minds (they came back from there just the evening before!), because Buena is a pocket-sized French bistro on a street that doesn’t have much else in the immediate vicinity.

Buena Vista inside

The inside has a very 50s aesthetic — black tables and chairs, mirrors making up half the wall and the entire menu written on a chalkboard behind the counter. But on that warm day, we decided to take it outside under the shade of bright yellow umbrellas.

Eggs Benedict

(Sorry, the umbrellas also explain the yellow tinge to all my food pics! I tried!). The menu is small, with simple plates. I went for the eggs benedict (of course…you’ll notice this is going to be a trend with me). The waiter was kind enough to promptly exchange my dish when I found bacon in my meal. It was pretty straightforward, eggs on a bed of spinach over an English muffin. Everything else we ordered followed suit — scrambled eggs with salmon, a stiff eggs frittata, and french toast.

French Toast

We thought the frittata was a little too dry and bland. The French toast was a welcomed bout of sugar to our meal. But nothing kept me majorly enamored (besides the company):

My hosts and current couple crush, Shahla and Faraz

(If we look like we were all up talking til 6 am…umm…then we probably were…leaveusalone). Faraz then awesomely represented his Hydro-ness, by taking us straight to Angelina’s for more sweets.

This place looked so cute and whimsical, I wish we could have a second meal here altogether!
We quickly got cake-batter flavored fro yo with mango, a much-needed cold treat on such a hot day.

Hello-I really enjoy reading your blog and specially enjoying the Miami posts. I am moving there by the end of the month and already have a list of places to try 🙂 I’m not sure how often you will write about Miami spots but if you do I wanted to request some posts about salons, specifically desi salons that do threading….one of the drawbacks of moving is that you have to start all over again hair person, eye brow threading person, gym, dentist, etc….would love it if you did some posts on those topics 🙂 I am still searching to see where the “desi” area is, after all gotta make sure I can find good Pakistani/Indian food!

Thanks, SYR! I have a couple more Miami posts to come…I’ll let you know if I hear of anything (and all ‘desi’ related) joints, since my friend Shahla just moved there too and is discovering places as she goes. Miami is beautiful though, and a very active city so should be fun!

OH! And I didn’t take pics of it, but we loveddd the pizza from Egyptian Pizza over there (they have the BEST halaal pepperoni slices). Usually I dont even care for halaal pepperoni, but this place is soo good…they even have pizza with Indian twists, and other international-style toppings. Must check it out 🙂
