Kimmie's Gimmies: the Dior edition

I had the privilege of attending a fabulous Kimmie’s Gimmies event at the 59th street Bloomingdales (Shy attended the first one here). This time, we were treated to Dior makeovers, using their absolutely beautiful summer line of 5-colour designer palettes.

Although it’s not my favorite thing to post a no-makeup shot of myself, I will always sacrifice pride for the sake of scientific research. So here’s a pic of me, pre-makeover.

My pre-makeup shot

I was assigned my own personal makeup artist– Haleyna, and she was an absolute doll. We bonded over how silly-obsessed with makeup we both are, except she’s an actual professional… She taught me some cool tricks, including getting the perfect crease. I have a relatively flat crease so this tip was especially helpful for me. Here’s the tip:

Using a hand mirror, lift the mirror above your head and look at your eyes at that angle. Notice how the shadow of your crease becomes particularly clear. Swipe your brush along the crease with your eyes open, continuing to hold your mirror and head at that angle. And voila!

The trick to a general summer glow look is really in the color choices—all the Dior Summer Look palette shades are meant to be perfect for summer—but, most importantly, the trick is in the highlighter. For a glow, apply highlighter to the upper cheek bone, on the bridge of your nose, at the lower-center of your forehead, above the bow of your lip, and on the center of your chin. To make your lips pop a little extra, apply a tiny amount of bronzing powder directly below (even touching) your pout.

The Dior makeup line is pricey—the shadow palette is $58—but I have to admit, it’s definitely high quality. Some designer makeup is all buck, no bang. But the Dior line delivers. The Airflash foundation offers an impressive full-coverage look (although if you’re going for something a little dewier, try Laura Gellar’s Ethereal Spackle… can’t live without it), and the Dior Show mascara (especially the limited edition 360) is amazing.

Here’s a pic of me post-makeover. Haleyna did MAGIC!
