Dessert at Serendipity 3

In the few times I’ve been to Serendipity 3 (which by the way, makes you feel like you just fell into the rabbit hole of Alice in Wonderland when you walk in), I’ve never actually had any meals. That’s because people normally come here for their dessert, namely, their famous “Frrrozen Hot Chocolate.” Well that, and it also earned its rank among landmark restaurants in the city.

A glimpse inside Serendipity

If you love chocolate, you really can’t go wrong with this drink. And it’s ginormous — one can easily satisfy a few people. But, if you’re like me, who loves coffee-flavored everything, go for the Frrrozen Mochaccino. It’s more bitter and strong, but has a proper dose of caffeine to make you feel high on life. And if you’re feeling particularly um…wealthy and generous…they are also home to The Guinness World Record for the most expensive dessert — a $25,000 Frrrozen Haute Chocolate, which I hope means it would last long enough to also feed your future kids and their kids for life.

OK random trivia time: Although most people associate the restaurant name with the 2001 eponymous John Cusack movie, Serendipity (the movie does center around a couple who met while shopping at Bloomie’s and ate at this restaurant later that night), it’s actually named after the three legendary princes of the island once known as Serendip (now Sri Lanka), from which the 18th century writer Sir Horace Walpole coined the word “serendipity.” Yaay Wikipedia!

The restaurant is also known for their gift shop, and having famous patrons like Marilyn Monroe and Andy Warhol. Celebs still frequent the place and it’s not uncommon to find a line out the door.

We did also order a pecan pie in honor of the birthday boy, Jainal, who loves it when I use his name on my blog. Here’s to 34, Joynal!
