4 body moisturizers that have been good to me

I’ve only recently been a body lotion hoarder. I’ve always been lazy about moisturizing after the shower, but now I realize it makes SO much of a difference. My skin feels exceptionally silky, and (per my obsession with smell), I’m crazy over the fresh scents that are left behind long after I apply. I switch it up pretty regularly, and here are the four that I’ve been jonesing on lately:

DIAL NUTRISKIN LOTION, $3

Dial NutriSkin Lotion

You may associate Dial with the standard orange anti-bacterial soaps, but they recently came out with a line of body lotions that are SERIOUS. The lotions are lightweight and absorb quickly. My favorite is the one formulated for Extra Dry Skin with shea butter. No joke, I applied it after a shower in my room and my roommate asked me from the other room what I’m wearing because it smelled so good (and yes, my roommates’ reactions are often used as a litmus test for the products I play around with). Helps that these are also loaded with antioxidants and loaded with vitamins. And PS, they also have an extra-hydrating Men’s counterpart with skin-conditioning niacinamide.

FARHMHOUSE FRESH HELLO! YELLOW SHEA BUTTER CREAM, $30

FarhmHouse Fresh Hellow Yellow Shea Butter Cream

I found this almost by accident. I was working at the Vogue offices, and this was left behind by the beauty department. I picked it up and took it home and ended up running through it so fast. It’s rich, and thick and totally got me through this winter with its summery scent (my fave, vanilla, and cocoa butter). Soybean and jojoba oil help to smooth dry skin and uff the bright packaging makes me so happy. The glass jar it comes in makes it also look pretty elegant standing on the bathroom vanity. Extra points for being paraben- and sulfate-free, and 95% natural. (side note: since then, I’ve also been familiarizing myself with some of their other products, like their Pajama Paste Yogurt face mask, and I’ve been pretty impressed with the quality and results).

JOHNSON’S BABY OIL GEL, $3

Johnson's Baby Oil Gel with Shea Butter

A twist on the classic baby oil from Johnson’s and Johnson that I can never get sick of, this one comes in oil-gel form which is so much better since it’s not as slippery and messy to apply. The consistency also locks in moisture 10 times better than the regular oil. I’ve been using the one that contains shea and cocoa butter (see a trend here?), and it leaves a slight sheen on my skin which I love.

THIERRY MUGLER WOMANITY BODY LOTION, $45

Womanity body lotion

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say I may love Womanity’s body lotion even more than the actual perfume. It’s slightly more delicate than the potent fragrance. I admit, I’ll probably use it more for it’s fantastic smell than anything else. I swear it permeates my whole apartment when I use it, and with its unique fruity/fig scent, that’s totally OK with me. It’s also the first time I really loved a perfume’s lotion counterpart and use it as regularly as I do. I think they last longer and have a more understated scent than perfumes.  I actually just put it on earlier today and now at the end of the night, I can still smell it on me!

You can’t say I didn’t give you fair warning about my hoarding habits of late. Do you moisturize regularly? What are some of your drugstore or higher-end faves?

Shy

  1. Since I was a teen, I have had a habit of always applying lotion (face to toe) after getting out of the shower.

    Currently-
    1) Vanicream

    – Soap (face & body)
    – Lite Lotion for day
    – Cream at night
    http://psico.com/

It is formulated without irritating preservatives, dyes, fragrance and masking fragrance, parabens, lanolin, and formaldehyde.
    Super long lasting moisture 🙂

I’ve only found it at Walgreens (sometimes CVS, always check online too!). I had our pharmacist special order it, because I recommend it to many patients with sensitive skin conditions.

I recently found they have a sun care line!

    2) CeraVe
    – Hydrating Cleanser (face to toe)
    – Moisturizing Lotion
    — I’ll switch to these when I run out of the Vanicream.

    3) Aquaphor
    – The wonder ointment that every human should carry ! It’s so versatile- best for rubbing into the roughened chapped areas- lips/elbows/feet/cuticles/diaper rashes/makeup remover/or body for those dry scaly skin days.

~ I could go on & on… lol, but I’ll stop. Over the years, many high end to low end products I’ve tried. But the above has been awesome… Last thing SUNBLOCK – always a must.
